Mumbai, Nov 3 (PTI) A maiden unbeaten ton by southpaw Pratik Shah and his 152-run seventh wicket partnership with Rakesh Dhruv gave Saurashtra hopes of avoiding the ignominy of a follow-on on day three of their Elite division group A Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai here today. Chasing Mumbai''s first-innings total of 580 for nine declared, Saurashtra, who were struggling at 209 for six at one stage, ended the day at 364 for the loss of seven wickets, still 66 runs away from avoiding the follow-on mark. The dismissal of Dhruv 49 (162m 98b 4x8), who was trapped in front by offie Ramesh Powar in the last over of the day, tilted the scales back in Mumbai favour. Mehta, unbeaten on 100 (181m, 147b, 4x17), and Sandeep Maniar (2) were at the crease when stumps were drawn for the day. Earlier, resuming at 94 for two, Ravindra Jadeja and Bhushan Chauhan began cautiously and added 49 runs to the total before Rohit Sharma, who was dismissed by Jadeja, got his revenge. Jadeja, who shared a third-wicket partnership of 84 runs with Chauhan, was out for 40 (135m, 103b, 4x6). Chauhan was dismissed soon after, by off-spinner Ramesh Powar for a patient 63 (190m, 192b, 4x6). Skipper Jaidev Shah and stumper Sagar Jogiyani could not do much and were both dismissed for an identical score of 19, leaving Mehta and Dhruv, who batted for almost 40 overs, to stage the rescue act. For Mumbai, Powar claimed his 22nd five wicket haul, ending the day with figures of 5-109, while pacer Avishkar Salvi and Sharma shared a wicket each.
