Indian Rugby Sevens team to leave for China tomorrow

New Delhi, Nov 15 (PTI) Indian men''s and women''s Rugby Sevens team will leave for China tomorrow from Pune to participate in the ongoing Asian Games in Guangzhou. Nasser Hussain will lead the men''s squad while women''s 7s team will be captained by Surabhi Date. The teams were announced today by Rugby India. "In the last 12 months we have created a few upsets and we reached an all time high ranking. Also exposure at the Delhi Commonwealth Games has helped us and we should be able to give tough competition to our counterparts," said Hussain. Women''s Sevens will make its debut at Asian Games and skipper Date said, "It''s my privilege and honour to lead the Indian team. We have been working very hard for an opportunity like this and hope to make our country proud. The game has picked up rapidly in India and we try to live up to the expectations of all." The Indian contingent will face a tough battle against the top countries in Asia like Sri Lanka, China, Malaysia, Japan, among others. Both the men''s and women''s team are placed in Pool B. The Rugby matches are scheduled from November 21 to 23. Men''s squad: Nasser Hussain (captain), Amit Lochab, Surendra Singh, Hrishikesh Pendse, Gautam Dagar, Pritom Roy, Puneet Krishnamurthy, Rohaan Sethna, Deepak Dagar, Thimmaiah Madanda, Bikash Jena and Kayrus Unwala. Coach: Usaia Biumaiwai Women''s squad: Surabhi Date (captain), Taposi Nandi, Sutapa Das, Kalpana Das, Sitara Indramohan, Vahbiz Bharucha, Niharika Bal, Neha Pardeshi, Sheetal Maurya, Yogita Marathe, Annapurna Bothate and Bhagyalaxmi Barik.
