Darpan Inani takes early lead

Published Fri, Apr 02 10 12:29 AM

Mumbai, Apr 1 (PTI) Gujarat''s Darpan Inani jumped into the sole lead with two points after registering two consecutive wins in the GTLF 11th National-A Chess Championship for the Blind here today. Three other players - Darshan Patel, Ashwin Makwana (both Gujarat) and S T Sai Krishna (Tamil Nadu) were following the leader with 1.5 points. In an early bishop opening, Darpan with white pieces gave no chance to his opponent Shirish V Patil of Maharashtra. Though the queens were off the board at their 17th move itself, Shirish gave up his centralised ''D'' pawn without any compensation and started trailing behind Darpan thereafter. An awful break on the Kingside at the 19th move of Shirish paved way for Darpan to reach a winning rook and pawn ending in 48 moves. The 15-player round robin tournament, held at the Andheri Sports Complex, is being played under the aegis of the All India Chess Federation for the Blind and is supported by the All India Chess Federation.
