Kolkata, Apr 1 (PTI) Chirag United SC wasted as many as three easy goals to settle for a 1-1 draw against Viva Kerala in their round 19 I-League encounter at Yuba Bharati Krirangan here today. With one point from the match, United, however, managed to cling to their third spot on the I-League standings with 30 points from 19 matches. The Kerala outfit have 23 points from as many matches to lie on sixth place. A 27th minute goal by Sirajuddin ensured the Kerala side a lead early into the match but United brought the match on an even keel in the 37th minute when Ashim Biswas scored from an Edmilson free kick. With 1-1 in the first-half, Chirag tried to settle the issue after the break but Edmilson, who returned after serving a two-match ban, missed two easy sitters in the second-half as their side had to settle for one point. Gouranga Dutta too muffed one in the second half that did not help the cause from the home side''s perspective. A spirited Kerala with win over Dempo and draw against defending champions Churchill Brothers in the recent past, gave United a stiff challenge in the first-half even as the home side dominated in terms of ball possession. C Sirajuddin, who was later adjudged Man of the Match, got a fine chance early in the first-half and the medio ensured the visitors a lead utilising a pass from M P Sakeer. PTI TAP ATK
