New Delhi, Aug 19 (IANS) Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) president Mike Fennell feels that work at the Commonwealth Games Village needs to be accelerated so that it can be completed by the time the athletes and officials start arriving well in advance for the Oct 3-14 Games.

The Jamaican, who was here for a two-day tour to inspect the venues and the operational issues, said that lot of work has to be done to clear the rubbish and construction waste at all the venues and the Village.

Fennell pointed out that some work at the dining room and the kitchen were behind schedule.

'We feel that some of the rooms in the buildings could have been better, but nevertheless they are good. The work at the dining room and the kitchen are behind schedule and large amount of detailing needs to be done. We don't have time left. The building alone doesn't make the Village. It is the management that all together that makes the Village,' he said.

Fennell was happy with assurances given to him on uninterrupted power and water supply.

'I have been assured that there will be back-up for power. We also have to maintain high standards of food hygiene. We are going to have a standard operating procedure in place for testing the food standards,' he said.

Fennell was also concerned at the detailed work left at all the venues.

'This has been accepted by organising committee as well. Cleaning of the venues have to be done with great urgency. This is of great importance because to a large extent this will determine the image of the Games. The landscaping work has to be done urgently,' he said.
