Raipur, Aug 19 (IANS) Sportspersons from Chhattisgarh who win gold medals at the Commonwealth Games will be awarded a cash prize of Rs.8 lakh each, it was announced Thursday.
'Players belonging to Chhattisgarh will get Rs.8 lakh as award money from the state government if he or she strikes gold at the Games,' an official statement quoted Chief Minister Raman Singh as saying.
Singh, who is also the chairman of Chhattisgarh Olympic Association, said the players hailing from the state will get Rs.6 lakh each for winning silver medals and Rs.4 lakh each for winning bronze medals for the country.
Singh said a 5 acre plot has been identified for the office building of the Chhattisgarh Olympic Association in the upcoming Naya Raipur area, which will replace Raipur as the state capital.
'The office building will be ready for the association by 2013 as the state is scheduled to host the 37th National Games during the same year,' the release added.
The Commonwealth Games are to be held in Delhi Oct 3-14.
