Lanka ODIs: Some Oz Test stars to be rested to prepare for Ashes campaign

Sydney, Aug.26 (ANI): Several Australian Test stars may be rested from segments of a meaningless one-day series against Sri Lanka in November to give them extra first-class practice before the bumper Ashes campaign.

Australia arrives home from a Test and one-day series in India in late October, only to be confronted by three one-dayers and a Twenty20 match against Sri Lanka.

Cricket Australia yesterday released its inter-state draw that shows there is a window for Test stars to play in at least one - and in some cases two - Sheffield Shield games before the first Ashes Test in Brisbane starting on November 25, reports The Herald Sun.

While no decision has yet been made, it is believed the new selection panel which includes Greg Chappell may consider sending some Test players back to play for their states instead of the one-dayers against Sri Lanka.

Skipper Ricky Ponting has already voiced his concerns that the spinning and crumbling pitches Australia will play on in India are hardly the best preparation for the Ashes. (ANI)
