Jammu, Mar 26 (PTI) Sports is an integral part of the department but specialised coaches is the need of the hour for the players to come up with more improved performance at the national and international levels, said state Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda. Praising the players of the department who have won laurels in various national and international competitions, Khoda said Jammu and Kashmir Police has been organising sporting activities at regular junctures besides hosting several national events to promote sports in the state. "We need a number of good coaches for different disciplines so that talented youths can prove their worth at higher levels and also make the department proud by their achievements," the DGP said here last evening ahead of the six-day Inter-Zone Sports Meet commencing tomorrow. "The J&K Police has given out of turn promotions to various players from time to time for their outstanding performances at national and international level," Khoda said. During the six-day long meet, a total of 816 athletes, including 612 men and 204 women, would vie for top honours in various disciplines such as basketball, volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, handball, tug-of-war, athletics, boxing, wrestling, weightlifting, archery, shooting, hockey, football, badminton, lawn tennis and table tennis.
