West Bengal bag 11 gold, Bangladesh maintain lead

Kolkata, Mar 26 (PTI) Hosts West Bengal today bagged 11 gold, 12 silver and seven bronze medals even as Bangladesh led the tally in the third Indo-Bangla Games here today. On the second day of the event, Bangladesh added 11 gold, 10 silver and 12 bronze medals to their collection which include 26 gold, 26 silver and 24 bronze medals. In comparison, West Bengal had 22 gold, 22 silver and 19 bronze medals. The day saw six new records with four in swimming and two in athletics. West Bengal''s Rahamatulla Molla and Ranjita Roy emerged the sprint stars with the former setting a new record as the hosts reigned supreme in athletics at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan claiming six gold, five silver and three bronze medals. Molla clocked 10.4 seconds to better his earlier record en route to the 100m men''s title, while Ranjita had a 12s effort for the women''s 100m. Sheikh Mortaza set a new record, the second in athletics, in the 400m. Bangladesh managed three gold, four silver and four bronze medals. At the Beliaghata swimming pool, Bangladesh continued their dominance to pick five gold, four silver and two bronze including three new meet records by Mohammad Kamal Hossain (men''s 100m breast stroke), Dolly Akter (women''s 50m breast stroke) and the men''s quartet in the 4x100m freestyle.
