Butt cannot afford to react emotionally: Sohail

Karachi, Sep 30 (PTI) Denounced by almost the entire cricketing fraternity in Pakistan, PCB chief Ijaz Butt today found support in former Test skipper Aamir Sohail who lauded Butt''s decision to withdraw charges of match-fixing against the English cricketers. "I don''t think Butt has taken a U-turn. He changed his mind which is a good thing because the ramifications of a dispute between the ECB and PCB would have been bad for Pakistan cricket," Sohail, who resigned from a senior post in the board due to differences with Butt last year, said. Sohail said that Butt should now realise that he was holding an important position and cannot afford to react emotionally. "I hope in future he is more careful and sensible with his comments. It is a good thing that this crisis has been diffused because in the long run Pakistan cricket would have been the loser," the former skipper said. "He should learn a lesson from this and be very careful in choosing his words from now on," he said. Butt had stirred the hornet''s when he pointed his finger towards the English cricketers for their role in the batting collapse that cost England the Oval ODI. "There were talks in the bookmakers circle that English players were involved in throwing matches during the ODI series," Butt had said. Butt''s comments came after the ICC had launched an investigation into claims by the ''Sun'' newspaper that said bookmakers knew details of Pakistan''s innings during the Oval ODI which the visitors won by 23 runs.
