Athletics track will be ready in time, says venue manager

Staff have worked through the night to make sure the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is ready for the start of the Commonwealth Games athletics events later on Wednesday, the venue manager said.

"The work will be done by 1400 (local time) this afternoon," Mateen Ahmed told Reuters by telephone. "They (staff) worked through the night, it is all fine."

The eight-day athletics competition begins at 1730 local time on Wednesday.

Ahmed said organisers had expected the work to take this long after a number of alterations were required on the track following Sunday's opening ceremony in Delhi.
