Mumbai, Jan 28 (PTI) An injury-hit Mahindra United squandered a golden opportunity to move to the top of the table after ending its 12th round I-League match against Mumbai FC in a goalless draw at the Cooperage ground here today. The draw ensured that Mahindra remain on the second spot with 21 points, while Mumbai FC too remained unchanged at the sixth place with 18 points. Mahindra, missing the services of Paresh Shivalkar and skipper Krishnan Ajayan, brought in Thoi Singh and Svetozar Mijin in the starting XI today. As the result suggest, both the teams started the match on a cautious note and lacked pace in the attack. Subhas Chakraborty came close to breaking the deadlock for Mumbai FC in the 18th minute but his header was off target skipper Abhishek Yadav''s cross from the right wing was off target. After a pale first half, Mumbai FC almost scored the first goal but were denied by Mahindra custodian Subhashish Roy Chowdhury, who pulled off a brilliant save off Bashiru Abbas strike. In the 73rd minute Noel Wilson''s floater saw Abhishek heading it for substitute Kayne Vincent inside the box but the Mumbai FC''s Japanese striker failed to give the ball the desired direction. Vincent missed a golden opportunity to score in the injury time as well.
