Troubled Portsmouth have website closed down

Portsmouth's financial problems continued on Thursday when the club's official website was shut down because its operators had not been paid.

"It is down at the moment because we haven't kept up with the payments," a spokesman or the Premier League club said.

Hard-up Portsmouth face a winding up order in the High Court on Feb.10 following a petition issued by the Government's Revenue and Customs office and there are fears that they could become the first top flight club to go into administration.

The south coast club has failed to make monthly payments to its players several times this season while the Premier League diverted most of their recent seven million pounds television income to clubs they still owe transfer fees.

One piece of good news this week for the Premier League's bottom club was the lifting of a transfer embargo meaning they can make loan signings as they try and escape relegation.
