Tania holds Malakhatko; Sandipan beat Irina Krush

From Our Chess Correspondent Gibraltar, Jan 28 (PTI) International Master Tania Sachdev held Grandmaster Vadim Malakhatko of Belgium to a creditable draw while Sandipan Chanda scored an emphatic victory over Irina Krush of United States in the second round of the Gibtelecom Masters chess tournament here. On a mixed day for the Indians here, World''s second highest rated woman player Koneru Humpy proved equal to French Dlovis Vernay and G N Gopal coasted to a fine victory against Nezad Hussein Aziz of Qatar. International Masters D Harika and V Saravanan found their nemesis in Grandmasters Michael Adams of England and Falko Bindrich of Germany respectively and Kruttika Nadig had a similar fate against Nana Dzagnidze of Gerogia. The other Indian winner was International Master Eesha Karavade who defeated lower ranked David Collier of England. At the top of the tables Viktorija Cmilyte of Lithuania held highly rated Sergei Movsesian of Slovakia to a draw while Ukrainian Natalia Zhukova was also impressive in splitting the point with GM Ivan Cheparinov of Bulgaria. As many as 22 players including Chanda and Gopal share the lead in this strong open that has a cash prize of 96000 Pounds Sterling at stake with 15000 Pounds reserved for the winner. .
